2nd Stage: Cape Coast to Takoradi

Stage 2 of the Cowbell National Cycling tour took off from the beautiful city Cape Coast characterised by its fishermen and a plethora of arts and craft.

With 5 cyclists swept, a total of 67 begun today’s race at 11:25am. One couldn’t help but to notice the poise and determination on the faces of the cyclists who were riding their hearts out.

As will be the case for any major event of this nature, the people were ecstatic and cheered the cyclists on with pomp.

The Cape Coast Takoradi stage, noted for its meandering roads and particularly tricky nature, took its toll on a cyclist who lost balance and fell off his bike.

With an average speed of 40.2 Km/h the gallant cyclists made the 80Km journey to Takoradi in just 1h 59m 34s and the race ended at 1:24pm.

At the end of the race, Samuel Anim who has been nothing short of spectacular got to the finish line first and swept the awards. He took the Red, Green and the all Important Yellow Jersey in an impressive display by all standards.

1st stage : Accra to Mankessim

The third edition of the Cowbell National Cycling Tour takes off today. In all, 70 racers took off for this 11 stage Tour.

They left Accra this morning under mild weather.

Apart for a small incident in Weija where a rider from the All Stars team fell from his bike, the race went smoothly.

They arrived in Mankessim after 2 hours and 28 minutes race where a large crowd had gathered to cheer them.

The winner, Samuel Anim who was also the winner at this stage last year, gets to wear the yellow jersey for the next stage and received a cheque and product hamper prize. The same can be said for the second and third places.

In all, the cyclists covered a whooping distance of 103 km at an average speed of 41.7 km/h

We are very happy to announce the launch of the third edition of the “Cowbell National Cycling Tour of Ghana”. We, Promasidor (Ghana) Ltd. have demonstrated by today’s milestone our unwavering commitment to the development of sports in general and cycling in particular here in Ghana. Together with our strategic partners in this endeavor, we for the third time are embarking on another journey across Ghana via the vehicle of cycling.

Over the last two editions, I am certain all stakeholders have witnessed our effort to continually improve this event to make it bigger and better. In furtherance of this objective, we together with our partners have committed significantly more resources in support of this year’s event. We have therefore committed, seven hundred and eighty thousand Ghana Cedis approximately, to support the event. We have been encouraged by the improvement and growth of the sport over the last two editions and are convinced that our investment in Cycling has yielded the desired results and met our expectation.

Quick facts about the tour

1. The 2013 Cowbell National Cycling Tour of Ghana will commence on Tuesday 27th of May from the Accra Sports Stadium with the final stage finishing on Saturday 8th June at the Trade Fair Complex, La.

2. The race will be made up of 1 prologue and a total of 11 stages with 72 cyclists from 12 clubs across the country competing for laurels.

3. The Cowbell Tour of Ghana is modelled after the leading cycling event in the world, Le Tour de France or Le Tour as it is universally called. Le Tour de France has been in existence for 95 years and is the third largest sporting event in the world after the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.

4. The race is broken into daylong segments called stages. An individual’s time to finish each stage is aggregated to determine the overall winner at the end of the race. Cyclists are transported from the finish line in one town to the start line in another in some cases.

5. The Cowbell National Cycling tour is structured under the technical direction of the Ghana Cycling Federation with support and recognition from the International Cycling Union and will be supported by over 200 staff, media personnel, clubs and tour officials.
